Founded in 2019, Eliconn (SHOULD) focuses on energy technology and system integration (SI). The company aims at creating the new human-centric “standards” with “positive energy” for buildings and spaces. The brand name “SHOULD” is our core vision that “people SHOULD live in a good place”. In order to do so, the company implements solutions such as green energy management system, smart solar panel, water resource & outdoor-air-full-intake exchanger, and bio- information technology. As a result, the system can achieve zero heat emission, zero energy waste, and eventually help building & industry match carbon neutral. Moreover, SHOULD also provides the innovative business model, platform with different partners. The company believes that technology shall not only connect people’s needs, but also make our world a better place. Indeed, the sustainable development goals (SDG) are not slogans that are nice to do, but the actions that must to do.
As the umbrella organisation of the renewable energy sector in Germany, the German Renewable Energy Federation bundles the interests of 50 associations, organisations and companies with 30,000 individual members, including more than 5,000 companies. Today, the renewable energy industry provides around 316,000 jobs and 3 million power plants. The goal: 100 percent renewable energy in the areas of electricity, heat and mobility.
Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) established in 2007 focuses on 5 key areas of sustainability: climate change, sustainable energy, corporate sustainability, university sustainability, and SDGs. TAISE promotes the concept of sustainability to industries, government agencies, universities, and research institutes. TAISE’s actions in achieving sustainability include organizing award competitions, education, international platform building, and research. Under the leadership of Chairman, Dr. Eugene Chien, TAISE has hosted Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award (TCSA) since 2008 and Global Corporate Sustainability Award (GCSA) since 2018. Over the past 13 years, more than 300 companies from more than 10 countries participated in these awards. Global Corporate Sustainability Forum (GCSF) is held annually since 2018 with more than 2,000 people participated every year.
SIGNIFICANCE: The importance of innovation and sustainable development and the bilateral Taiwanese-German relationship
Leaders of innovation: Taiwan and Germany, both driving forces for innovation and sustainable development in Asia and Europe respectively, could become successful partners in finding innovative and sustainable solutions in the field of sustainable development.
Intertwining of Taiwanese-German relations: Taiwan is the fifth-largest German trading partner in Asia, the bilateral trade volume is high (17.3 billion € in 2017). Germany is the largest Taiwanese trading partner in Europe.
Need for SDG implementation: The successful implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals depends on finding innovative solutions on a local, regional and global level. The sharing of best-practice examples and global learning clearly contributes to this goal.
